Classifications

Classifications are very important for statistical analysis. By means of classifications corresponding variables or statistical units can be grouped, thereby facilitating the economic or social statistical analysis.

The Central Bureau of Statistics of the Netherlands Antilles uses different economic and social classifications. These classifications are based on the United Nations classifications, which have been designed for compiling, presenting and analyzing comparable statistics in individual countries and internationally. Where relevant these classifications have been adapted to the local situation.

The economic classifications used at this moment by the Central Bureau of Statistics of the Netherlands Antilles are:
-the International Standard Industrial Classification (ISIC ) rev.3 in which data are classified according to the kind of economic activity,
-the Central Product Classification (CPC ) version 1.0 which covers products of economic activities,
-the Standard International Trade Classification, (SITC) rev.3 which contains commodity groupings of exports and imports.

The social classifications used at the moment are:
- the International Standard Classification of Occupations (ISCO) 88, which covers groupings of jobs;
- the International Standard Classification on Education (ISCED) 76 which covers groupings of different levels of education.
